Clean water is so important! City water supplies can be contaminated by things like heavy metals, human or animal medications, or even bleach. While there is testing and filtration for these things, some of them still end up in our water supply. So what can you do to make sure your autistic child (and the rest of your family) is drinking clean water?
My two favorite options are:
- Reverse osmosis. This is what we have in my house, specifically the Circle Reverse Osmosis System. It mounts under the sink and has a separate spigot next to our regular sink faucet. Reverse osmosis filters out everything, including minerals, so you should consider adding good minerals back into reverse osmosis drinking water.
- Berkey water filter. If you rent your home or otherwise don’t want to mount something under your sink, the Berkey water filter may be a better option. This is a countertop system with filtration for things like lead an fluoride.
If you’re out and about and need to buy bottled water, two reverse-osmosis options are Dasani and Aquafina.

Be gentle with yourself. You’re doing a great job.
